The next time you are ready to buy a new computer, check with us first. We have recently partnered with HP and offer HP's computer systems for sale.

We regularly get asked which computers we recommend, and for the past several years we have recommended HP or Dell systems. When it comes to printers, we think HP printers are the best. We're still using an HP Laserjet in our office that was purchased over a decade ago.

We recently sought and received approval from HP to become an HP partner and reseller. This gives us access to better support resources from HP. It also gives us more options to help you out the next time you're shopping for a new computer. Rather than just saying “go buy an HP,” we can discuss your needs with you, recommend a system, and order it for you. Best of all, you'll pay the same price you would have paid ordering directly from HP.

Need to Setup a New Computer?

If you recently got a new computer for the holidays, you might be thinking that it's time to get some help setting it up. No, we don't expect that you haven't plugged it in and turned it on yet. But you've probably noticed by now that there are all sorts of annoyances that you'd like fixed New computers come with all sorts of things pre-installed that you don't need. And they're not set up for your Internet and email use. You might have files and settings on your old computer that you'd like transferred. We can do all of this for you, and we can even come do it in your home.

We Recommended AVG for Antivirus

We've recently decided to switch our recommendation for antivirus software from Antivir to AVG.

The days of needing to buy a pricey security suite for your computer are gone. Several years ago you needed to buy third-party software in order to get a firewall, anti-spyware software, and antivirus. Now the firewall and anti-spyware software are built in to Windows. You do still need antivirus software, but there are several free options.

We have recommended Antivir for several years and installed it during our Tune-Up service if you didn't already have antivirus software. It is still good, and if you have it, there is no reason to rush out and switch to AVG. AVG is better in several key ways. At your request, we will install it for you as part of a Tune-Up service the next time you bring your computer in.

AVG does not display advertising messages at you that try to get you to buy the paid version of the software the way Antivir does. This is one of the major drawbacks of Antivir.

As far as performance is concerned, both AVG and Antivir are great in that they do not slow your system down the way the large security software suites like Norton do. They are both small and fast—exactly what you want from a program that is always running on your computer.

If you'd like to download AVG yourself, you can find it at www.download.com right on the front page. The software you want is “AVG Antivirus Free Edition.” Before installing it, be sure to completely uninstall your current antivirus software.

Alternatively, we'll do this for you as part of our Tune-Up service, in addition to all of the other things we do to speed up your computer system and ensure that it's running optimally.
